Silbond 03 A is a high performance collapsibility agent for the CO2 process suitable in all ferrous and non ferrous application. A major problem with CO2 process is poor collapsibility of moulds and cores after pouring the casting. This leads to higher fettling rate time and chipping marks on the casting. Silbond 03 A is a low density powder which when mixed with sand grains burns out resulting in pores and voids thereby improving the collapsibility properties of the mould/cores.

How to use:

  • Silbond 03 A is a powder which has to be premixed with clean, dry and clay free sand used for CO2 process. The normal addition rate varies from 1 to 2% of sand weight. However the exact percent of Silbond 03 A required depends on the foundry practice. The premixed sand can then be used in the standard manner by mixing it with silicate, making the cores/molds by ramming. Carbon dioxide is then passed in cores/moulds using similar techniques practiced in conventional CO2 process i.e., at same flow rates and pressures. Care should be taken to ensure that even a small quantity of clay or moisture will affect the strength of cores/moulds.

Silbond 02 A is a high performance collapsibility agent for the CO² process suitable in all ferrous and non ferrous foundry applications. A major problem with the CO2 process is poor collapsibility of the molds and cores after pouring the casting. This leads to higher fettling time and chipping marks on the casting surface. Silbond 02 A intimately mixes with sand by increasing the cold bond strength between the various aggregate particles and improves the collapsibility properties of the molds and cores. Unlike many other conventional collapsibility agents, this product does not generate any gas, and therefore gives better insurance against related defects.

How to use:

  • Silbond 02 A is a liquid additive that has to be premixed with Sodium Silicate used for the CO2 process. This liquid additive has to be premixed with the sodium silicate at the rate of 7% to 15%. However the exact percent of Silbond 02 A required depends on the foundry practice. Silbond 02 A when mixed with sodium silicate reduces the viscosity of silicate, there by increasing the coating efficiency of the silicate mix in the sand grains, as a result sodium silicate level can be decreased upto 10% when compared with conventional practice. The premixed silicate can then be used in the standard manner by mixing it with sand, making the cores/molds by ramming. Carbon dioxide is then passed to cores/moulds using similar techniques practiced in conventional CO2 process i.e., at same pressures and flow rates.

Silbond 01 are a range of inorganic sand binders for the CO2 process used in all ferrous and non-ferrous foundry applications. They are suited both for high production automated cores as well as hand ramming applications. Silbond 01 is a low viscosity binder which mixes much more easily with sand and reduces binder level by 10-40%, when compared to conventional silicate. Silbond 01 provides rapid hardening rate, shorter gassing time, higher strength and better core shelf life even under difficult damp conditions. Mixed sand will not dry out as rapidly as conventional silicates.

Presently the following grades Silbond 01 are available in our range categorized into two different grades:

  • Silbond 01 A – High performance binder cum collapsibility agent
  • Silbond 01 B - Moderate performance

How to use:

  • Silbond 01 may be mixed with clean, dry, clay free sand at rate of 3-5% of the sand weight, either in a batch mixer or continuous core sand mixer for uniform mixing. However the exact percent of Silbond 01 required depends on the foundry practice. Since the product is less viscous, mixing time of 90-120 seconds is sufficient. The sand then possess better flowability, enabling better compaction leading to improved surface finish and moisture resistance. The mixed sand is then rammed as desired for core making/mould making. Carbon dioxide is then passed in cores/moulds using similar techniques practiced in conventional CO2 process i.e., at same pressures and flow rates but quantity of gas may be reduced upto 30% depending on the final strength required.
